ARTIST STATEMENT

In my piece of art, I wanted to convey the stress of studying in a new country without knowing the language. When we see an illustration of an open book, it always brings many colors that stand out and a beautiful imagination. Instead I used dark colors in my drawing because even though coming to this country, opened many doors for me (that's what I had represented with the open book) that I did not imagine. At one point being here came to make me uncomfortable, stressed, frustrated and depressed. Because here was not the place where I grew up, which represents the dark and the green colors. Arriving in the country without knowing anything, not even the language is frustrating if you do not seek help or do not allow someone to support you. Fortunately, I was able to find people who knew how to help me and was able to find that small safe place apart from my family in my teachers. This represents the stars that we see in the background and to the side, this also represent the white and dashed line because within so much darkness there is always a light that guides us and helps us find our way.
