ARTIST STATEMENT

As a person of color(POC) student living in a low-income community environmental justice is a topic that is important to me and has inspired me to write about it. I was first introduced to environmental justice when I was in my sophomore year of high school. When first learning about the topic I was shocked by how my community has been impacted by environmental racism, the many years that I’ve lived in my community never once did I notice until I was taught about it in my AP Environmental class. I began to notice the problems around my community. As I dug deeper into the matter I learned that communities are not the only ones impacted but the whole world by climate change and pollution. I decided to write my piece on this area to spread awareness that we need to take action to help our planet by making changes to environmentally friendly alternatives to save our planet.
