SCHOOL: Skyline High School
PILLAR: Quality Teachers and Teaching

ARTIST STATEMENT

I chose the Quality Teaching pillar because most students don’t see teachers as actual human beings and don’t always see eye to eye on things. There were times when I struggled to ask for help and communicate with my teachers. However, I overcame that fear and began to receive support from my teachers around me. It turns out that teachers are understanding and can be amazing supporters if you put in the effort to ask for what you need and how you need help. I most likely would be failing and not passing my senior year of high school if it wasn’t for them. My art piece is part of a larger mural that I am creating for my senior project that focuses on mental health. This portion of the larger piece was created using my iPad on an app called Adobe Fresco. The two people in my work are supposed to represent a teacher and a student looking at problems and situations from different points of views. This could be compared to the wall that exists between students and teachers which prevents them from understanding each other. I believe that if the student and teacher can just get past that wall I believe that there can be a mutual understanding.
