ARTIST STATEMENT
I am very much in favor of school safety first. I feel this way because many states of the United States have a common to hear of innocent lives being shot such as in schools, workplaces, shopping malls, and armed robberies. As a high school student, I am very worried about Oakland schools' safety. I remember classes for Sojourner Truth had been canceled until October 4, 2022, due to a gun shoot incident that occurred on campus on September 28, 2022. During that time, the school provided all kinds of help for teachers and students who needed mental health support and counseling. The increase in the crime rate is making schools unsafe and might cause more people to lose their lives. If the government is without effective gun control, it will affect all students' school life causing fear and danger. Therefore, for the safety of teachers and students while on campus, schools should consider strong security, and gun control is the most serious problem to be solved in the United States.
