ARTIST STATEMENT
Hi, My name is Natalie Gallegos Chavez. I am a senior at Oakland High. I chose the pillar of Student Support and demonstrated that pillar through a video I made. The video goes through a week in my life as not only a student but a student activist, and teen worker. Throughout my video, you will see how I was able to manage everything while still having to go to my classes. I decided to show a week in my life to demonstrate how we as young people can do and accomplish everything we put our mind to. As young people, we are told to not put alot on our plate but I wanted to show how we can do anything as young people.
Throughout the video some of the major things you will see me do are the following: On Tuesday I went to our ACC middle school meeting and left a little early to go to work. On Wednesday I went to my ACC meeting and Attended my School Board meeting since I am one of the Student Directors. On Friday and Saturday, I attended ACC high school retreat. At the retreat, we engaged with our students to do work around ACC priorities and to build a community with each other.
This video shows the importance of why we need to keep having these programs/ safe spaces for students. Students should feel comfortable in these spaces and know that they will have support every step of the way.
